Over the years, it has become increasingly popular for children with celebrity parents to carve out a niche of their own. 15 year-old Brooklyn Beckham – son of former professional soccer player, David Beckham, and former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham – has done just that. Instead of riding his parents’ coat tails, the teenage boy has embarked on his own career in both modeling and sports, and so far it seems like the sky is the limit. On top of two budding careers, Brooklyn seems to be enjoying life and has often been spotted with a few famous female friends. However, even though Brooklyn has lived most of his life in the spotlight, the public still has quite a bit to learn about this multi-talented young man. Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Brooklyn Beckham.
5. Brooklyn Beckham has a strong American accent.
After moving to the United States, David Beckham revealed that all three of his children had started to lose their British accents. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2009 Brooklyn’s father, David Beckham, stated: “Every time we go back to London, which is not that often, my parents and Victoria’s parents will say, ‘Wow, their accents are really American now’…They’re really into it. We live here now, it’s an amazing thing for them. They are happy in their school and their lives.” David Beckham also shared that his time in America has also caused him to acquire a slight American accent In 2012, during an episode of Hell’s Kitchen, viewers everywhere were able to get a little taste of Brooklyn’s accent while he sat down to enjoy a meal with his father.
4. Brooklyn Beckham is a model and a professional soccer player.
In 2014, Brooklyn Beckman made his modeling debut after appearing Spring/Summer issue of Man About Town Magazine. According to Ben Reardon, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Brooklyn was “a dream to work with.” Reardon also described Brooklyn as “a true professional,” and said: ““It is clear that he is becoming a credit to the family name, not only possibly the most famous in the world but one with a wealth of heavyweight fashion influence behind it.” Since making his debut, Brooklyn has appeared in New York Times’ style magazine. However, Brooklyn’s talents are not just limited to modeling. In November 2014, Brooklyn followed in his famous father’s footsteps when he signed a professional soccer contract with Arsenal. A source close to the team stated: “Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played. He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club. Arsenal realize he can be a huge talent. They have seen that potential and protected their asset.”
3. Brooklyn Beckham is the reason his father missed training in 2000.
Brooklyn Beckham’s father, David Beckham, is one of the most famous soccer players in the world. For more than two decades, David Beckham enjoyed a professional career that exemplified handwork and dedication. However, in 2000, Beckham made a decision to put soccer second when he chose to miss training in order to care for Brooklyn who was ill with gastroenteritis, a condition that causes inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Although Beckham was initially given permission to miss training, he was eventually fined the maximum amount allowed after Alex Ferguson, manager for Manchester United. Ferguson felt that Beckham’s wife, Victoria, should have looked after Brooklyn instead of participating in a photoshoot. Ferguson released a statement saying: “He was never a problem until he got married. He used to go into work with the academy coaches at night-time, he was a fantastic young lad. Getting married into that entertainment scene was a difficult thing – from that moment, his life was never going to be the same. He is such a big celebrity, football is only a small part.”
2. Brooklyn Beckham is reportedly Dating Chloe Moretz
In the summer of 2014, rumors began circulating that Brooklyn Beckam was dating 17-year-old actress, Chloe Moretz – star of the 2014 drama film, If I Stay. During an interview, Moretz stated: “What I find really interesting about Brooklyn-and what I really love about that kid-is that he is passionate about what he wants, which is to be a professional soccer player. And I enjoy someone who is on my level with the seriousness kind of thing,” and the two have admitted that they enjoy spending time together. However, they have maintained the idea that they are “just friends.”
1. Brooklyn Beckham was named for Brooklyn, New York.
While many people believe that Brooklyn’s name is a result of his being conceived in Brooklyn, New York, the teenager’s famous mom set the record straight in her brook, Leaning to Fly. Victoria, the former Spice Girl, stated: “It was when we were in Marbella that we came up with the name Brooklyn. We already knew he was a boy and so I knew he could end up a footballer, so it had to be a name that was a bit blokey. I had always liked the name Brooke and then we suddenly thought about Brooklyn. I’d always like it as a place – it’s very multi-cultural, very grounded. And it was only afterwards that I realized how appropriate it was because it was in New York that I found out I was pregnant and where David came after the World Cup.”
